Now that you have added several new culturally diverse books to your classroom library, evaluate their effectiveness! Make a "YES"/"NO" checklist based on the following questions:
Are my diverse students reading the books I purchased in their native language?
Do my diverse students participate more during discussion?
Are my students comfortable talking about diversity?
Do my students share stories/exchange information about different cultures and experiences?
Do ALL of my students have a book he or she can INDIVIDUALLY relate to/understand the written language?
Are my students able to make connections between the multicultural books?
Are my students responding positively during read-alouds?
Do I have a quality text (s) that focuses on the SPECIFIC culture being promoted/celebrated today/this week/month?
Are my students able to distinguish between folktales/fairytales/fables based on their knowledge of their multicultural variations?
Do my students know the culture being discussed/represented in the book?
Have my students learned something new?
